7.1 headset questions

Go to solution Solved by Volbet,

The Phoebus is able to drive real 7.1 surround like the Tiamat 7.1 or a 7.1 home theater HiFi system. Virtual surround only needs 2 speakers and then a program "fakes" 7.1 surround. And the Sennheiser headphones will be much better than any surround headphoes you can find. To make surround in a headset it needs to use a lot of smaller driver insted of larger ones. Larger drivers generally gives a better sound range.

I currently have the xonar phoebus 7.1 sound card. Im assuming that the card can drive 7.1 virtual surround through any headset but unsure whether i would actually need a 7.1 headset to achieve the correct results or that just means it has a usb soundcard ready for 7.1

And while im at it sennheiser do a 300ohm impedence headset not marked as 7.1 what is actually the benefit of that over their 7.1 headset at 32ohms

Additionally, the Phoebus has a 10 ohm output impedance, so you'd be best off with headphones with at least an 80 ohm input impedance.
