Best gpu for 144hz 1080p

Hey all! I am hopefully getting a 144hz display for Jewish Christmas (Hanuka) this week. I was curious what GPU I should get to drive games at 120hz-144hz at 1080p. Doesn't have to be at ultra, high would be fine or even med-high. I was thinking of getting a 980ti or a Fury X. 

 

Edit: I do play on upgrading my horrible PSU in the near future and well before I purchase a new card.

I will have enough for an a flagship card only reason I'm even suggesting it. :D

The 980ti is the best one out there by far.

 

That is what I was thinking. Maybe getting a classified for that sweet sweet OC'ing. I know for a fact I would have to upgrade my PSU before any of this. :P

A stock clocked R9 390 won't get more than 60-70fps in graphically heavy games at ultra with no anti aliasing.

*shudders* Yeah, you could.

If that's your plan, you can get away with a much cheaper GPU to run games at very minimal settings with 120-144fps. I would go with a 980ti if you want the fps, and nice graphics.

That was a joke. I'd never do that and a 980ti is what I was leaning towards. Would a 980 be a good option too? Just a thought. Not sure what the $100 extra or so gives me in terms of performance. I could do the math myself.

There are plenty of websites online that has benchmarks of the 980 and 980 Ti being tested at 1080p. Considering you want to run at 144hz you would probably want to shoot for a 980 Ti so you can actually hit that 144hz mark. There are some games that will not hit 144hz with a 980 Ti with the settings turned up. If you get a better PSU, I would recommend one of EVGA's or Corsair's PSU's. If your gonna run one card then buy a 750 80+ gold or platinum fully modular PSU, then your all good.

 

I planned on getting either the RMx or supernova since I've heard good things about both and I'll take a look at the charts later. But I am for sure leaning towards the 980ti. If I were to get one should I get a classified you think? I do plan on OC'ing the bad boy.

I vote for 380X or above depending on what games so if you wanna max ALL then your best bet is 980Ti...

Not a bad choice. I would personally recommend the one I bought, it's got a much better/beefier heat sink and better power delivery than a Classified 980 Ti. They are all good GPU's. Pick your poison.

A 380x could not drive more intensive titles at 144fps frankly. It has trouble maxing games at 60 fps. If I was only playing league and csgo a 750ti would be perfect lol

Considering i haven't yet seen a game i can't get 60 fps with good settings at 3840x2160, 980 ti is definitely more than enough. 1920x1080 at 144 Hz is 0.6x the pixels of 3840x2160 at 60 Hz.

 

A 970 is 0.6x the performance of a 980 ti based on calculations and benchmarks i've done. So i'd recommend a minimum of 970 performance

Ha, lies. That card would average 80-90 completely maxed. Even my 290 does that.

I'm not sure if you know this, but the 390 is the same card as the 290, but with a higher stock clock, and updated coolers. If you've overclocked your card, you should be getting similar or better performance than an R9 390. I run my R9 390 at stock clock, and games like GTA V, Plabetside 2, H1Z1, and most other recent AAA games only run at 50-70fps on ultra with no anti aliasing depending on the game, and settings. I'm not sure what about my statement you thought was a lie, but it isn't. Please research more thoroughly before you accuse people of lying.

I know it's the same card. The only differences are cleaner architecture, a newer memory controller, and lower power consumption. And the game I was referring to was BF4, I should've done a general consensus instead of a single game. But in BF4 I average 90 FPS completely maxed.
