Help me get an amd build that would be close to an i7 4790k and a gtx 970

Do you mean both CPU and GPU wise? As no AMD CPU is even close to a 4790K except the FX-9590 on some multi-threaded applications.

Why not get an actual i7 build...? You could outperform the 970 with an AMD card but not the i7.

the closest cpu to an i7 in terms of rendering performance would be a 12 core opteron , but it won't be anywhere near as good for gaming.

 

Get an actual i7. Given your budget , you can afford it.
