As many guys pointed out, it really depends on what you need the drive for. A great performance drive can be a very bad choice for a RAID array. Massive capacity drive that works quiet and cool can be bad for heavy workloads. A NAS drive that works perfectly fine in servers can be a bad choice for a DVR or other surveillance setups. 
 
The boot SSD + HDD for storage is a great idea. Are you planning on doing any RAID arrays for redundancy or performance gains? 
I would say if you are not planning on running anything demanding off the HDD - WD Green would be a great choice for secondary storage. If you do plan on running heavier applications off of the HDD - WD Black. For RAID arrays I would suggest checking out WD Red. Here's info on all three drives:

whats the best HDD¨s in the market atm? i¨ve heard some great stuff about the DW Blacks but im not sure? rant away!
