Graphics card for 1080p and 1440p in the future.

Crushaderdk

Hi Guys!

Can anybody recommend me a good graphics card that can serve me well now, and in the future? I am looking to play 1080p in 2 years or so, and then maybe move on to 1440p.

I am looking to play any game at ultra in 1080p

And any game in high at 1440p

Any help is apreciated

R9 390X not worth the extra $100 compared to the R9 390.

at 1440p it's equal to the 980 for 100$ less than a 980

with the push for vram lately, i'm gonna say R9 390

EDIT: 8GB model, if you find you lack horsepower in the future, get a second one in cf

Still $100 more than the R9 390 which already performs really good at 1440p gaming.

980ti is not overkill

maybe for now, but next year it will still rock 60fps+ maxed out games on 1080p, while i doubt 390 will

Fury won't fit in my budget really. Neither will a 980 ti. Yeah i know its my pick. So im gonna have to decide between 390 or 390X. :)

GTX 980ti not worth the price. R9 390 is cheap and performs really wel at 1080p/1440p and it has more than enough VRAM. The R9 390X is $100 more expensive and doesn't have a big difference compared to the R9 390 which also isn't worth the money. The R9 Fury is better but also more expensive same as the GTX 980.

390X will last longer so if you don't want to upgrade soon it might be worth

Not overkill

For 1440p it is....

390 or 970 is perfect for 1440p, I just upgraded to a 970 for my new 27" 1440p monitor and I can run the majority of games on max settings, Battlefield 4, CSGO, Trials Fusion, Left 4 Dead 2, Warhammer and Planetside 2 work fine. None of these games are crazy demanding like Crysis or anything but I can lock a stable 70FPS in Warhammer which is extremely poorly optimized.

I say.. buy one now for 1080p.. and later buy another for 1440p because they are gonna be better :P.. I think its a waste of money to buy an expensive gpu... wait for vulcan, dx12......

CSGO, Trials Fusion, Left 4 Dead 2,

Well of course it is for those games

but there are plenty of new AAA titles that will not run at 1440p 60 Ultra on a  970 etc

And assuming he doenst want to replace his card in 6 months, what about the next 2 years of gaming? imagine Witcher 4, Battlefield 5 etc

There are games NOW that will not run maxed out at 1440p on a 980ti

For 1080p, i don't see the value in buying a 980 ti, for 1440p, that's another story, however given the upgrade path you're proposing (1080p and maybe 1440p in the future) i think the most sensible option is getting an R9 390 and potentially getting a second one in the future if you're lacking GPU power. It has 8 gigs of vram, so no worries there, and CF is known to scale much better than SLI, and since the 390 outperforms the 970 by a hair, and it scales better, you could get 980 ti equivalent performance for a lower price tag and you wouldn't have to spend a ton of money right away. That's what i would do if i was in your position.
