Bluescreen when Overclocking

Hi, I got a problem when i'm overclocking my AMD Phenom II x6 1090T when I reach the 4.0 GHZ my pc bluescreens. Does anyone know a solution?

What kind of cooling you have on the PC

Some of things you can do:

Increase voltage

Decrease the speed maybe you are reaching the threshold depending on the cooling.

I used to own a 1090T. The first think I would think is have you upped your voltage at all? I think I remember getting 4GHz with about 1.4V.

It can't be cooling, have a H60 in there. but i will try to increase the voltage.

*Check your temps (if the block isnt sitting right on the CPU this can cause conduction issues)

*Check your voltage settings (if you havent touched voltage, you may need to increase it)

*Check vDroop settings (maybe try disabling it)

I'm now running it on 3.8 GHZ, no bluescreens yet been gaming for half an hour.

When you are overclocking, are you running Prime 95 to test the overclock? Gaming doesn't ensure you are fully stable. :)

Run prime95 for 24 hours if doesn't give an error your stable. If it gives Voltage higher if temp not to high or just clock it down, gaming is not something you can you use for cheking if your system is stable.

Prime for 24 hours is the minimum. When I change any settings in the UEFI I run prime 95 for 48 hours. Once I let if run for 3 days and I had an issue around the 67 hour mark. So it wasn't 'stable'. I'll always remember somethingLinus said awhile ago, "Stable means it is STABLE."

Post the model of your motherboard, and all of your current settings you have set in your bios, your frequencies and multipliers should be set to fixed speed's rather then auto, and your vcore for 4GHZ should be 1.375 - 1.450v at max.

The model of my motherboard is an ASUS m5a 78l-m USB3 when prime is finished i'll post my bios settings.

Not all processors overclock the same, overclock limit varies even betveen models with the same designation.

Also, not all motherboards have the same OC capability (fsb wall, vrm phases, chipset, cooling on the chipset and vrm's, ...). It even varies within the same model sometimes.

And not all water coolers are that great, there are air coolers out there that outperform a H60 and cost a fair bit lower.

Memory does impact overclockability too. Even a PSU can have an impact.

So, state your MOBO, RAM and PSU - withou that we can't help you.

You PSU seems not to be a quality one *.*

I've got the same CPU and a Asus M5A79L-LE using a Be Quiet Dark Rock Pro 2 and i've overclocked my CPU to 4.8Ghz while reaching maximum Load temps of 83°C under 9 hours of Prime95..

Maybe try to overclock with AMD Overdrive.. and look what results you can archive with that before OC'ing via BIOS

Your board is probably what is holding you down. Try to cool the 4+1 power phases somehow and increase your NB voltage a bit.

But do not expect a lot from a 4+1 board with no heatsink on the vrm-s. And don't increase your CPu voltage too much, just to be on the safe side.

Basically it means your PC isnt stable.

Either:

1) Lower your base clock

2) Up your voltage

and dont forget, that overclocking needs patience and sometimes odd ways can get a stable overclock (ex: unlocked cpu's might benefit from upping fsb a bit).

Watch your temps, run a stable test with P95 and be patient! :)

My 1090T needs 1.5v to be stable at 4.0Ghz. Maybe you have a bad chip too.

Even at 1.5V 4.0GHz, my 1090T isn't stable, so i've settled at 3.8GHz which has been rock solid stable. I could go higher if i had a better motherboard but it only has 4 + 1 with no heatsink on it.

Could you possibly tell us what error code you're getting, and we could roughly determine what it is by that.

Usually the last 3 digits of the error code are fine.
