Old PC without display?

Help! I've just took out my old parts to build them back together but there isn't any display being output from the PC.

The CPU fan moves when the PC is on so i know that it isnt the motherboard (nor the CPU) because i remember it worked like 2 years ago

 

Specs:

AMD athlon ll (something)

870-c45 MSI motherboard

Sapphire HD 5450

Some ghetto PSU

 

 

The VGA cable is plugged into the gpu

Nope so cant tell whether it spins

HD5450 can literally run on potatoes

I tried with display port but to no avail

Stupid question, does it have RAM installed? Have you tried connecting the video cable to the onboard video instead? The GPU might be fried, or the BIOS may be set to initialize onboard first.

Yes. I dont think there's onboard video. Cant even get to splash screen

Hmm, come to think of it, I actually owned this model of motherboard a few years ago. Served me well.

 

Anyway,

I think you should try a different GPU just to see if that's the issue. If it's not, reseat the RAM sticks or test them one by one. Still no picture? Reseat the CPU. Still nothing? Dead CPU or dead mobo.

It might be the power supply

The GPU displays perfectly on my main rig (in sig)

And the PSU makes tons of electrical noise when i on the switch

Plus the CPU fan spins on it's own even when i didnt had the front IO plugged in

 

Do you think the PSU is dead? it's some chinese knock off brand

Do you think the PSU is dead? it's some chinese knock off brand

weather it is dead or not just get a new cheap (you don't need a lot of power) one from a trusted brand (Corsair, cooler master etc). But first try weather the whole system works with another psu just use the one in your main rig or something...

Just a sidenote, don't get a Corsair CX430. They're barely better than shitty Chinese brands like HKC.

Im going to try it with my brother's psu before deciding on a new one! Will report back what happens thanks!:3
