Well, with an i7, GTX 1080, Full tower and flashy lights, it can obviously only be for one thing:

Do you see the trend?
I think it's pretty apparent to most of us, but I'm curious if you see it as well.

Both companies went different routes.

NVIDIA brute forced their first gen DX11 cards, AMD simply doubled the 4870 and strapped tesselation units to it.

Each gen after AMD made their cards stronger, and Nvidia knocked something off to compensate.

i'm unsure why this is a thread...

your newest comparison on the nvidia side is 2 generations behind what's soon to be last gen. (3 generations if you count 800)

on the nvidia side a rough, "dont actually use this metric" metric is that for every time you go a generation newer you drop one card in the series, and you'll get roughly the same performance. (i believe they actually do this in the GT cards)

Just looking where AMD and Nvidia went from their first gen on a level performance level.

Just looking where AMD and Nvidia went from their first gen on a level performance level.

You're comparing GPU's that are lower tier though. Of course the 570 is the same as a 480. That's how it works.

This years 980 will be as powerful as next years 1070, etc.

Nvidia dropped a lot of their raw compute power in favor of a more efficient pipeline.
