i3 4170

FX shits on it at video editing and rendering

But it shits on the FX at everything else.

not really - at gaming they're pretty much equal since modern games use 6-8 cores rather efficiently

Yes, but the key point is that my i3 doesn't bottleneck GPUs on the same level that the FX 6300 does. I would have a major bottleneck if I ran my 290 with the FX 6300, but with my i3 there is no issue, except in games that destroy CPUs in general like ARMA.

I think you'll find that a FX 6300 won't really bottleneck a 290 in GPU-bound games

It has like a 10 FPS difference the entire time. And higher in some games. ???

when using 2133 RAM yes

They choose a bad i3 and an expensive i3. The 4150, 4160, and 4170 are all superior to the 4130 because of being haswell refresh.

the only thing that influences is temps

I'm not seeing your logic here.

if you get 2133 DDR3 you're in i5 territory

The performance of an i3 and an fx 6300 are pretty similar in gaming. The key tipping point here is the editing. Something that the i3 won't even be close to the 6300 in, even at stock clocks. I this situation, the fx is clearly the better choice. Trying to claim otherwise is just fanboyism.

But they are not similar in gaming. The FX 6300 has a far lower IPC.

Really? Fanboyism? I sold my FX 6300 platform to have the one I have currently. The key tipping point is not editing, it's the fact that the i3 won't bottleneck higher end GPUs like the FX 6300 or even the 8350 will.

You're saying if I speed up my memory I can have i5 performance?

i'm saying if you're paying for DDR3 2133 you can afford a i5 4460

That brinks on not making sense.

The haswell refresh Core i3s do a lot better than the 4130. Multicore, and singlecore.

no?

4460 can be had for as low as 120$ sometimes. 20$ extra on the RAM can make a world of difference
