Is it broken?

Attached is a screenshot of my phone with the touch path drawn out. I have an HTC one m8, and as you can see for a strip of screen it cannot properly read where I'm touching. (in vertical orientation if I tap the letter "r" it will register both the and e but not the r) is it broken? If I ignore it will it go away? I'm a year away from upgrading

Yes, restarted several times, recalibrate, I haven't factory reset but I don't know that would make a difference

Well it probably is a problem with the screen then.  Is it still under warranty?

well when did you get it?  Most things are guaranteed for 1 or 2 years... but maybe phones are different seeing as how people upgrade almost that often

do you have devleoper things in your settings enabled

Isn't that the only way to get the option to draw the lines he did?
