I have a mid-high end build with a gtx 970 and i5. I have a CX750...

As soon as i knew it was a bad psu, ive been wanting to change it, wich PSU can i get for around the same price (maybe a little less wattage, 600watts because im not doing SLI) and a modular one so i can pimp my PC with custom laced cables.

Thanks

Diego

Bad PSU = Bad/low quality parts.

Go for EVGA superNOVA G2. 550 650 750... They are basically THE BEST based on everything.

It's perfect. I see them one of the best PSU for overclocking and stable power. And everything in between. :)  By the way, here's the review that you can read;

No need to worry they run just fine!! Wait until you really think you need to get a new one.. If u where to get one now it would just be a big waste of money..

A big waste of money that will save him more in the longer term, yep. Not to say Corsair CX are bad, but the parts inside it isn't the best you can get.

Hes only had it for 3 months tho? I would agree if it was over a year old.

I just feel as Corsair fool with the high wattage on the CX models it's not made to drive a GTX 970 and i5... It works, it will hold, but it tend to be easier to break down based on the parts used in the CX series. Though it WONT fry anything or so. But the PSU is something you should only get with best parts because it will power all that you have. He had it for 3 months, better to change sooner than later?

From what I've read on the CX, if it's likely to fail, it usually happens early on.  If you've had it for a few months, I wouldn't worry about it failing suddenly.

As for being able to pimp out your system, you could just as easliy buy some nice LED fans, or other spiffy upgrades.

If you still want a modular PSU, you missed the best sales by about a week - there were tons of sales on some very good ones.  If you are patient, you can still find good deals, just not as common as the black friday week.  For example, prior to the big sales, I picked up a Quark 1000W for $90 after rebate.

Newegg is a good reference, even if you don't eventually buy from them.  Decide what your price range is, select your favorites (Rosewill, Neweggs' house brand is generally well regarded, but EVGA, Corsair, Antec, and Seasonic are also very good, if pricier), and wait for them to go on sale.  Their ratings (when there are a lot of them, 100 or more is good) are a good first approximation of the quality of the PSU.  Read the negative reviews to weed out sour grapes and non-PSU problems.  The bigger the discount you want, the longer you should expect to wait, but be reasonable.  Killer deals are not very common.

For specific reviews, Jonnyguru is a great review website, and Tomshardware has a recent, very good "best of" PSU article
