Write a CV and a general letter saying you are interested in any job (no specific details), print them out like 100 times, put them in nice/clean white envelopes and just hand them in everywhere. Especially the supermarkets (tesco/asda etc). I did this at your age got a reply back about a month later from argos about 2 weeks before christmas saying they were hiring temporary positions. worked the temp job, asked for a part time job at the end and they gave me one :)

I think Dave's ideas sound good. If you are interested in tech related stuff, you may want to look into doing some console/mobile repair on the side or PC repair. A lot of people offering that kind of stuff on Gumtree, you could try friend and family though.

Do you have any specific skills?

When I was 16, I started reselling on online marketplaces to supplement the income from my job at the car wash. This would require money from your parents to start up.

Car detailing is something that can net you huge amounts of money with a little investment. I loved detailing when I did it and found it to be very rewarding, granted you can put in the hard work.

I'm 16 and in the UK too and I agree it's not easy to find work beyond mowing lawns or washing neighbours' cars. Of the few friends of mine who have jobs, most of them just got lucky. They knew a guy who knew a guy who worked somewhere that was willing to take on a 15/16yo. So that would be my first suggestion: check if your mum or your uncle or you distant cousin can get you in anywhere. Other than that, have a CV ready and keep an eye out.

Yes, Jordan said the same thing, he replied through the message centre though, and it didn't post here thanks to the VB5 beta lol. I'll repost:

"Children can only start full-time work after the last Friday in June of the academic year when they turn 16. This is the minimum school leaving age...From the summer of 2013, a young person must do some part-time education or training until they’re 17." (https://www.gov.uk/child-employment/minimum-ages-children-can-work). Meaning the minimum working age could be 17.

Children over the age of 13 may work part-time but, require "employment permit issued by the education department of the local council" (https://www.gov.uk/child-employment/restrictions-on-child-employment). There are also plenty of other restrictions on the types of work that can be offered.

There most definitely are minimum working ages in the UK, I just cannot see any large businesses wanting to go to the effort of obtaining a permit, perhaps they did in your case though.

No offense to the OP, I wouldn't consider you a child, just legislation

Good money in detailing, some skill required if machine polishing etc. Still get a good bit of money for claying and waxing though

If you have enough patience to deal with noobs, You can start a class to show old timers how to use email facebook and windows. Charge 5 dollers a head per class bam there some money, Dont fix computers for free for 8 years like I did, Charge for your skills. If none of this interests you then best thing to do is just to keep on trying never give up and eventually somthing will come along that you really enjoy, it's very tedious but bvery rarely will you get your foot in the back door for somthing you want to do, you must earn it and when you do you feel even better for it. Good luck man.

I can build, fix computers. I can fix consoles, I can fix phones. I just can't find anyone and I don't have the money to buy broken and fix up

Wow it was just 4 months ago when I was your age and I got into pc building :) I wanted to make the $$$ but I was still in school. My dad gets clients for me now and then for my pc building buisness my price is around $500 TTD per build. I'm making it public because it's basically private atm :) it's recently been my dead to make a pc building company and I want that dream to come true :) working really hard but gotta focus on school if things don't turn out that well!

I've not finished exams yet, but I have all predicted on there but I've not yet done personal statement ect, the worst bits. I'm going to be putting in a CV to a small PC shop as soon as I'm done
