because you are a green team fanboy.

no shame admitting this anyway.... If the 980s was cheaper, i sure would too. But since the performance gap at that resolution is so small, and the price difference is so large. I cannot say that the 980s is a good buy. Even if you OC, 4GB VRAM at dual 1440p is pushing it. Sure OP may not play games using dual monitors, but if he wanted to try, the 980s wouldnt cope with more demanding titles without reducing settings a lot.

not even worth arguing, even if i tell you that the 980 is a faster GPU, and that 4GB is PLENTY for 1440p for years to come, that the 980 are much more efficient, run cooler, quieter...and support a ton of cool extra features, and has better driver support etc etc. i would just be repeating myself and you KNOW all that stuff already and what do you mean ''so large'' ?

779.99$ x 1.18 = 920$

18% more expensive, you get better cards...factor that over the cost of a full build you talking about what? 6%...8% more expensive...anyways.

well, what resolution do YOU play at?

oh yeah. 2560x1440p, with a 6GB card

i play at 3440x1440p with a 4GB card (yes, its a dual GPU, still only 4GB per GPU)....

it is NOT hard to run out of VRAM, even with a massive 512bit bus helping the data transfer, and a wicked memory OC (currently got 1600Mhz stable), its STILL not hard to run out of VRAM

I've ran out of VRAM at 1080p with a 3GB card. 4GB is definitely NOT enough for 1440p "for years to come" considering 2 years ago 2GB was enough for 1440p

Honestly if the OP even has the money to afford 390x or 980 crossfire, 980Ti would be the best choice. Now that 980Ti prices are falling under $600, it has a much more compelling price to performance. Also, newer games have just destroyed the reputation of multi- gpu setups. I can't remember a recent AAA game that has come without SLI/CFX issues(actually Battlefront might be the exception but it's easy to run anyways). You have a better chance of SLI working because Nvidia owns a lot of the devs(practically), and AMD is nice enough to not gimp Nvidia cards in their very few, but existing, AMD titles. SLI 980s is a good choice but it's significantly more expensive than a single 980Ti which can already handle every game on the market maxed out except for AA at 1440p at enjoyable framerates. I'm an AMD graphics user, but CFX 390x's on air is a bad choice, really. They still output tons of heat like the 290x and suck up lots of power. They would be significantly hotter and noisier than dual 980s. But CFX 390x's still performs just as well if not better than SLI 980s in games like FC4, SOM, and BF4. The reason why I'd recommend the 980ti over the Fury X is because the 980Ti has 50% more VRAM, and generally offers better performance and much more overclocking headroom. The Fury X is still a great card, but it should not be priced on the same level as the 980Ti as of now. I'm sure it'll outpace it later though like the 290x did with the 780ti. The reason why I'm running crossfire 390x with a 290 is because my 290 is under water so the 390x doesn't have to deal with the heat and also I got both the 390x and 290 for around $300 combined.

I just want to point out that a Fury X is around 50$ cheaper than a 980 Ti

980Ti = $580 MSRP after Nvidia's price cut. Fury X = $570 after rebate and AMD price cut. At least in the US. But they're both US based companies lol

Yep. Guess I was wrong lol. I thought 980Ti @ $580 was the MSRP after black Friday but I guess not lol. I'd pick the Fury X myself anyways.

I don't OC and I have temp paranoia so I'd go for the Fury X simply because of the AIO

i indeed run shadows on softest and grass on high, otherwise major FPS hit for no reason (it looks exactly the same)

These are the settings i use i get 80FPS+ (i would say average 90FPS), 1440p with FXAA (looks georgeous, sharper then even 8xMSAA at 1080p, i tested both)

These are the settings I ran with a single 290 overclocked because I was still getting high 30s-40s in city daytime which people with lower end PC's would call more than acceptable. And still higher than console at 2x the res lol. I basically maxed out everything and set MSAA to 2x for both overall and reflection
