460w PSU with 6pin to 8pin for 960

J_DeMan

My bro wants to upgrade from a reference 6770 to a 960. He currently has a delta 460w PSU and it only has a 6-pin and the 960 needs a 8-pin. Is it safe to use a 6pin to 8pin adapter?

Its usuallly not recommended, better off buying a new CPU

You mean PSU correct? Though his PSU is decent yeah 6-8 is not recommended.

You can get an adaptor to do the 4 pin molex to 8pin but really recommended to get a new PSU that has a 8 pin. Get maybe a 500 watt.

recommended PSU is 400w on the 960 so it seems strange that it even has a 8pin. for comparison the 6770 recommended 450w,
