Camera Mini HDMI Direct Output/Stream?

So I have a couple of cameras that have a mini HDMI port. I know that this can be used to show photos that were taken on a TV but I am wonering if it can also stream the current footage directly. Mainly I want to attatch another screen to the camera but it would be nice to possibly plug it into a capture card as well. I just cant figure out and dont want to buy a cable if it wont work. Audio output is not relevant as I use an exernal mic.

 

The two cameras I have specifically are the Canon Powershot 110HS and the Sony DSC-HX9V.

If your camera supports LIVE HDMI output you should be able to view it on a screen.  Check the manual.
