Broken Windows Update- No Uninstall Option on Destructive Update

FAQBytes
Go to solution Solved by FAQBytes,

After running more diagnostic tools, and more windows updates, the problem has been revealed.

CBS Manifest is corrupt.

From here i will still most likely be upgrading to W10 regardless, because DX12.

I used to not believe it when my friends said windows updates progressively destroy computers, and now I am beginning to believe that is true.

All these issues started happening yesterday when installing windows updates on the computer I just built. I got everything working great, even benchmarking a lot of things.

Then I decided to install windows updates (Note: This is Windows 7) for this clean install. I came back a few hours later and my motherboard was freaking out. I managed to uninstall all but two of the updates that were installed then.

Those two updates do not give me an uninstall option. Nothing. That leads me to believe those are the two corrupted updates that are causing the issue.

NOTE: I can boot into safe mode no problem, so it is not a hardware issue.

Symptoms: When booting into regular windows 7 the computer will load into windows for a few seconds, then the screen will either go black or freeze and the hard drive stops. After another 30 seconds the computer will 'shut down', motherboard starts beeping, but the fans all keep running.

I am running the latest Catalyst drivers (r9 290x). I can try uninstalling those if that might be aggravating the issue, but I would like to reinstall as little as possible which is why I want to prevent going clean install again. It's a PITA to download everything again, then resolve all the issues, again.

NOTE: It is currently running off a single 160GB 7200RPM drive, and not the drives stated in the PC Part Picker, those aren't here yet.

Hmm.. ive had that. If you dont mind, I would personally reinstall windows or do a win10 fresh install. Alternatively you can look at this guide on how to rollback your updates http://goo.gl/OFjLur

Couldn't you just do a system restore to before you did the updates?

Unfortunately there were no restore points to go back to for some reason. I find that odd as well, probably should have put that in the OP.

At this point I think I might as well. Despite the fact I don't have a windows 10 key, I'm sure I can find someone with an extra one laying around.

PS, link is broken.

I'm just glad I still have most everything on the flash drive I used to port stuff around with.

ffffuuuuu okay here it is http://goo.gl/NmDylc

and you can upgrade to win10 for free with this creation tool http://goo.gl/KDcv8n and can learn how to use it here https://goo.gl/ajEO6c

EDIT: forgot to mention that if you are upgrading you cannot make a usb tool, but have to go through with the software upgrade process...kinda annoying.

Already started making it before I even posted.

The problem is I already did that, and they didn't uninstall. I know there are a few things that can't be uninstalled, any maybe those are two of them.

Also, I decided (ironically considering your glorious Gaben photo) to try uninstalling Steam, and it seems that Stream was causing some issues, as I am now booted into Windows.

Some other programs are also crashing windows, so I am going to try to revert some Catalyst drivers to older versions, maybe Level 3 program faulty interaction (wording?) is causing some kernel issues. At least I'm booted in, and installing MOAR WINDOWS UPDATES to hopefully fix the broken ones and maybe there is a fix in one of them.

LOL!

I still would recomend switching over to windows 10 as it is indeed a better operating system with a promised lifetime of support etc etc etc. Its up to you.

Well good luck!
