Core i3 Overclock?

I have heard that 1151 socket CPUs can be OCed with BCLK freq. That means non-K CPUs can also be OCed, Has anyone tried to do that? And on which mobos does it work?

 

Also: will Linus test this?

yeah people do it all the time..

no need for linus to test it. and im pretty sure you can do it on most mobos

On 1151 the BCLK freq. isn't tied to PCi and storage, so you can bump it more. Also I can't find tests , wouldn't there be results of testing, like: get the Core i3 6XXX, it can OC to XGhz on Y mobo....

No, you can't, only the unlocked cpus have they BCLK untied to the rest of the system.

Ok, if I sell my FX-4170, GA-970A-DS3 rev 1.1 and 16GB A-Data pro 1333mhz ram. Will I be able to get a b150 ddr4 mobo and a i3 with 8 gb ram?

get a i3 6100, Z170 board, 3200MHz DDR4 RAM. then you are set.

NO

 

the whole point of the "K" CPUS is that they are overclockable

non "k" CPU is NOT.

 

even if you CAN OC using base clock, you generally get less then 100MHz OC, because the base clock also affects RAM and sata/PCIe speeds/timings too. Therefore getting high OC on the base clock is PURE LUCK!... and it involves having a very tolerant kit of RAM, tolerant CPU and you may even need to get lucky with the motherboard too.

 

IF YOU BUY A NON "K" CPU, YOU ARE NOT SUPPOSED TO BE ABLE TO OVERCLOCK!

oh please, do enlighten me on how they are not tied to bclk... because last time i checked.. RAM and Sata/PCIe all use bclk multipliers/scalers
