What is the appropriate storage allocation backup solution for DAW setups?

Drummaboy57

I have...

256gb OS SSD

1tb sample library SSD,

2tb WD Red Hard drive (more for silence than speed)

I am a little confused as to what goes where in terms of

-The DAW (Cubase 8 Pro)
-Synthesizers
-The sample libraries (komplete 10 ultimate)
-The actual Project Files
-Games
-Device drivers like midi controllers and external Audio Interfaces
-School Documents

After that is configured, which are the critical drives to back up, and should I do that by running them in raid 1

If I am correct about Sample libraries and Samsung 850 pro's 10 year warranty, I should be able to just replace the drives if they fail and redownload the libraries to them at no cost correct?

All help is appreciated.

I would do this:

256GB: OS and programs (DAW included)

1TB: I'm guessing this is all filled by the sample library

Run the 2TBs in RAID1. If you can though, I would try to push for 3 or 4TB drives, they give you way better value.

I would keep the projects and other data on the RAID1 array.

I would also backup the sample library as downloading 1TB doesn't sound pleasant at all...(Actually, can you even download the sample library? I thought they mail you a 1TB drive with the samples on it)

Finally, I would recommend buying a 1TB external drive to put on a shelf or something that backs up your project data. Backups save lives.

Get a UPS if you can too (It sucks losing work due to power outages).

To be truthful, I really doubt that 850 Pro will die in 10 years, and by then, you'll have replaced it with something faster (I'm pretty sure the enthusiasts will be on NVMe drives by then).
