Which GTX 970 should I buy?

Are there any 6-pin to 2 6-pin adapters out there? Since my PSU only has 1 6-pin.

if you want a dead PC yes. There are. NEVER use adapters

Well, 6 WATTS would be a game changer actually. I've don some digging around on the internet, and people have had their GPUs fried, or just stop working, or even the PSU being overdrawn power, frying a lot of their PC components. It's just not a risk I'm willing to take. Also, I've owned 2 AMD cards in the past, and they've both served me horrendously. I'm just willing to try a new type of card, due to my personal experience.

it's not - if your PSU can't supply the needed connectors neither card will work

I've worked with the EVGA 500B extensively at work, and it has two 6+2 pin connectors. You should double-check your unit.

he likely has an EVGA W1 - abysmal PSU line

Ah, perhaps I should have done so. Does the 6+2 pin mean that I can use it on an 8-pin GPU?

Cheers!

Yes sir. It's basically a 8-pin connector split, so that you can use it on 6-pin sockets.

No, I have the one exactly listed in my original question, and the link I put was the exact one I have. I should have double-checked, it seems that Reece Leu is right.

6+2 means either 1 6-pin or 1 8-pin

Should still have two 6+2 pin connectors though!

W1 are terrible and have a temp tolerance of 25*C I believe (yes, lower than CX)

Ah, so I can use it on an ASUS STRIX, which requires an 8-pin?

still a low-quality unit based on the FSP Raider Bronze which means expect heavier wear and tear on the GPU - maybe even instability.

Well, I won't be overclocking at all, so I doubt it will do any significant damage. I may even consider buying a new PSU in the future anyway. Thank you for all your help on here, I appreciate it!

As an ASUS owner, I can state their products are adequate.

970 auto OCs - you can thank GPU Boost 2.0 for that - expect it as a 220W card

Really? It's only because I have heard great things about the STRIX. With great heating, very quiet, and the fact that the fans don't spin at low load. And great OC-ability for the future, when I get better cooling. What problems have you faced with your ASUS unit?

exactly! great heating! - they are toaster with poor cooling and poor VRMs.

I'm using an ASUS 660 Ti for folding, an ASUS display, and an ASUS motherboard and they all work well enough.

Asus 600/7000 series were good - current gen is awful

my 280 had double the VRM phases of the 970 card (means more stable power into the card) and the VRMs still failed fairly easily. Getting voltage spikes and card is slowly and painfully dying

Hmm, perhaps I will look more deeply into it. Thanks for the heads up! Which GTX 970 would you recommend then? (considering that the G1 Gaming is too large for my case).

I disagree. I've worked with almost all the cards, and the ASUS STRIX line had the best temps to noise output + the build-quality is great. EVGAs current-gen GPUs are about 10 degrees higher than the STRIX.
