Installing a new Graphics Card

Gi Di
Go to solution Solved by Chris_R.,

Uninstall drivers before shutdown. Install drivers upon boot with new card.

Make sure you have enough power and the correct power connectors to connect the new card to.

Make sure you have a anti-static mat or remember to ground yourself to the psu. {obviously un-plug it before starting}

Don't forget to push the release on the motherboard to release the old card before tugging on it to get it out.

That's pretty much it really. :)

I recently bought the R9 380, an upgrade from my R7 260X. I just wanted to take an extra step in finding out what precautions I need to perform before I install it later this week. Yeah I'm paranoid.

completely uninstall drivers and reinstall new ones and you'll be set

edit:

make sure your PSU supports it (voltage)

make sure to unscrew the screw in the IO plate before taking it out. if you can, also install the drivers of the card before you put it in to save time.

I like Computer Stuffs. Have you tried unplugging it and plugging it in again? Automation Expert (Bots, scripts, etc)! Add me on Xbox Live: JollyPlanet449 And on Steam!: Baxtmann Wanshow.tips is a cool place too

Yep, I didn't one time and the sound of all things caused repeatable BSOD's until I un-installed it and re-installed the drivers.

Thanks!
