the ram i am currently using is 8 gigs of ripjaws 1866 and the timing is 9-10-9-28. i was planning on getting 8 more gigs of ripjaws clocked at 1600 and the timing is 9-9-9-24. if i just reduce the clock speed of the ram i own now to 1600 mhz will there be any sort of problems? i have read that you're not supposed to mix and match ram but there is a really good deal right now so i'm just curious.

im not sure if this matters but my processor is an fx 8350 and my mobo is a Gigabyte ga-990fxa-ud3.

Get the same kit of ram as you originally got. Do not vary.

Slighty off topic here but do you know if i can use different colors of the same RAM?

is my Kingston fury White 8GB stick at 1333mhz  compatible with Kingston Fury Black at 1333mhz 8GB?

I'm pretty sure i can but just wanna double check.

Match speed, latency's, and voltage. Then you're good. If it's the same kit but comes in different colors they should be completely interchangeable.

I bought a slightly different but only cl9 instead of cl8 corsair dominator platinum ram and the 4 sticks completely hated each other, Original set was from 2 years ago and even though I forced them to run at the same speeds my system just boot cycled, froze and hanged in the bios, shut off entirely
