Testing a PSU before using it - worth it?

I was researching the PSU I just bought (In this system), and came across this thread. Is this a valid concern? Should I try to find some old motherboard to test it beforehand, or should I not worry about it.

Also, does the PSU I got come with a tester? I can't find any mention to one.

I would advice you to check to make sure the power supply works before attempting to use it. Still, that doesn't mean the power supply is entirely functional, nor is the stated case in the link a common occurrence. The Supernova units are very solid, and I would call that experience a rarity.

Okay, thanks

That guy was just very very unlucky. You really don't have to worry at all (most people don't test brand new psus before installing them) if you want to be safe test using this method.

I figured, but... I'm not gonna do that - I've been shocked far too many times in my life.
