Always use TIM. Your CPU may overheat very quickly without it. 

 

So everytime I remove a cpu and put it in another mobo, should I reapply everytime or should i just let it be?

I would personally apply new thermal paste (after removing the old) everytime you take the cooler off the CPU (Which you probably do if you take it out of the motherboard)

At the very least you should have a load of the cheaper stuff set aside for tests. I've got a 150g tube of it-and its been bloody good as my AS5 isn't wasted.
