Fps scales fairly linearly with pixel count, so if you got for example 30 fps on a 4k monitor, you'd, in most games, get roughly 60-70 fps on a 1440p monitor. With that being said, they're probably very similar in terms of difficulty to run at their full potential.

Most people on the forum are going to recommend 1440p 144Hz over 4k 60Hz, because for the majority of people/games, smoothness > image quality.

RIP in pepperonis m8s

I'll assume by "run" you mean at full potential, so 4k at 60 fps and 1440p at 144 fps.

In that case, the second. While the video bandwidth required is pretty similar and in fact slightly higher in the first case, sustaining 144 fps requires significantly more cpu oomph than even 60 at 4k.

Don't ask to ask, just ask... please 🤨

At the same time a lot of people think 60 fps is just fine, and appreciate the extra crispness and desktop real estate more. It really is a matter of personal preference.

4K 60fps G Sync is the answer.

G Sync means anything over 30 is butter smooth removing the feeling of stuttering at traditionally low frame rates and 4K displays all run at 1440p too so if you haven't quite got the power to drive 4K in all games you can step down to 1440p for that one title.

The extra desktop space us unreal, I don't think I could go back to a lower resolution desktop now, I'm so used to the space.

Iv got sli 980tis and i7 4790k

With the xb270hu

Was just wondering if it would do 4K or not,

I'm not upgrading until cards can do 144hz 4K and obvs 144hz 4K monitors

I've got SLI 970s and they perform more than adequate in most games, there's a few they struggle with but overall they do very well.

Obviously I'm not maxxing games out at 4K mind, there's nothing available right now that can do that.

Your 980s should be just fine for 4K gaming.
