970GTX SLI Query

Go to solution Solved by Cromat,

Hey guys,  Thanks alot for all the replies! I can understand bottle necking concerns at this point , hence the age of my CPU. However getting a extra 970GTX is going to cost me a whole lot less that buying at brand new CPU, Mobo and RAM. I mean I can try and fine someone sell my 970gtx to but its going to be very difficult in the country i stay in.

Hey guys,

Specifications:

CPU: Intel I5 2500K @ 4.5GHZ 1.3V
GFX CARD: MSI 970GTX Gaming 4G
RAM: G Skill Ripjaws X 1600mhz 2GBx4 1.5V
MOBO: MSI P67A GD80 (B3)
PSU: Cougar CM 1000W @ 80A
PRIMARY DISPLAY: Benq XL2411Z 1920x1080 144Hz 1ms
SECONDARY DISPLAY: Sony Bravia CX52 32" 1920X1080 60Hz 5ms
OS: Windows 10 Pro X64

As per above specifications, I am looking to get another 970gtx for SLI to make the most of my Benq 144hz screen since one 970gtx doesn't seem to cut it in some of the titles i play. My questions are as follows:

1. Will my current PSU be sufficient to run two 970gtx in SLI? Ive had this PSU since 2011 and its performed flawlessly since then. I used to run two 560GTX TI's on it and they were both overclocked with no problems.

2. Should I be concerned of any potential bottle necking on a 2500K? I think this is unlikely due to it still being a Tier 1 CPU and mine is running at 4.5ghz. But would just like a secondary opinion on this.

3. I was thinking of just getting a 980gtx TI but at my current stand point and location (South Africa) it is not financially possible. Trying to sell one 970gtx to get a 980gtx ti just wouldn't work in my current financial standing.

Any help regarding this would be appreciated.

1 - likely fine
2 - likely a bottleneck
3 - likely better

LIKELY!

Overclocking the CPU would help to alleviate some of the bottlenecking.  You'll just have to test to see which titles give you problems, and try to keep as much pressure on the GPUs as possible.

CPU: Ryzen 1600X @ 4.15ghz  MB: ASUS Crosshair VI Mem: 32GB GSkill TridenZ 3200
GPU: 1080 FTW PSU: EVGA SuperNova 1000P2 / EVGA SuperNova 750P2  SSD: 512GB Samsung 950 PRO
HD: 2 x 1TB WD Black in RAID 0  Cooling: Custom cooling loop on CPU and GPU  OS: Windows 10
