Sell/buy in person or don't use craigslist.

These people get you to ship your item to them and then never send the money while taking off with your product which you have already shipped.

Hmm... Emotional appeal with mention of his anniversary, oddly specific instructions on payment procedure, then assurance that things will "run smoothly." He has the technique down, but in practice this guy just comes off as super shady. I wouldn't touch it with a ten foot pole.

Don't do drugs. Do hugs!

I think you could've easily answered it yourself buy reading the multiple "Do not trust people who want to ship/pay with checks" PSAs that are everywhere on Clist.

It's a no go imo. Try Ebay.

hes saying hell pick it up himself after i cash the check he sends me.

he also did mention in the previous email that his wife might pick it up instead.

it does still seem quite shady though.

he also told me to delete the ad in craigslist, which i did.

Thanks

so hes gonna send a check even tho I told him cash?

There's simply no reason for silly payment methods, He's trying to scam you one way or the other whether you understand it or not.

Whichever form of cheque he's wanting to send he will either cancel it after he picks up the item or it will bounce due to insufficient funds or the cheque will just have bullshit info on it or he could just be trying to get your bank account info to scam you in some other way.

I'm actually fairly certain i've seen that copy and pasted bull shit of a message before. I doubt this guy lives anywhere near you, Probably in India or something.

If it's and e-check or something he would likely just have it cancelled or have insufficient funds in his account or if it's a cheque in person it'll likely just be filled with bull shit info or just bounce when you try to cash it.

ahhhhh

I see, k

o gotcha

I was thinking how he can scam me with a bank.

he can cancel the thing even though I cash the check and get physical cash from him?

also, he said that I would cash it first, and then he would pick it up

Even if you cashed the cheque for cash there could be a way for him to get a refund which could withdraw the money from your account for all i know. Or maybe he's just trying to get your bank info. With all these potential loopholes it just makes it completely not worth screwing around with.

Personally i would delete and block him after immediately identifying that he was a scammer but if you feel like giving him a second chance and want to meet this guy in person i can't stop you.
