Good Racing Stuff?

Paytend01

What would be necessary to have a decent simulator for racing? Not looking to spend a small fortune on 3 monitors and a racing chassis, but what is something decent that is a decent price? By something i mean stuff other than a monitor

track IR, at the very least a Logitech g25/7/9 but personally I recommend fanatec, potentially a wheel stand, a thick ass cable to wrap around the wheels of your chair if you have a rolling chair, converses if you get pedals with a metal finish like fanatec since they can get your feet sore, especially if you are heel and toeing, but the converses are thin enough to give good pedal feel.

http://www.fanatec.com/

(currently only offering very high end wheel setups but they are in a hardware rotation so they should have some lower end options coming out that are closer to the logitech pricing)

(thin letting you feel pedals better, good grip on pedals, wont cause you to get sore feet with more advanced driving techniques)

as for the cabling I mentioned, brake pedals are stiff, and generally speaking the stiffer the brake pedal is the better because its harder to lock up under braking if you are running without ABS, the downside to this is when pressing the pedal you wont press it down you will just push your chair away from the wheel, the best way ive found to stop this is to chalk the chair wheels with a cable wrapped around them (I use an old ethernet cable)

Maan. This price kills me. For a while I've been wanting a race setup (I have like a Thrustmaster ferarri wheel upstairs), and grab like Dirt 3 and go crazy. Unfortunately I just redid my room, and am getting a TV on black friday, and like $400-700 for a racing setup kills me :(

I'm serious. To properly downshift a manual car you need to do soemthing called heel and toe, how this works is as you are entering your braking zone you press on the brakes, followed by putting the clutch in, then you use the "heel" of your foot on the break to press the throttle in a bit, (this is referred to as "blipping" the throttle) you then shift gear, and you do this process for every gear you gotta go down.

Depending on your technique for doing, the design of your pedals and the materal they are made out of this can get painful in socks. I can only drive for about 10-20 min in socks before it starts to hurt quite alot.

This is how I heel and toe

I press the side of my foot into the edge of the pedal, and then slide it down to blip the throttle, I cant do this for long in socks as I said, its such an issue I will just drive paddle shift if i dont wanna get the shoes.

And as I mentioned before your foot slips off way easier in stocks, and while any sneakers are fine really for keeping your foot from getting sore and not slip off the pedal thicker more padded shoes can make it difficult to feel  where exactly your pedals are, ive had this issue actually driving real cars as well.

Just grab a used G27 and make sure the wheel and pedal don't exhibit any spiking.
