Hi guys,

Here is the deal I have. I am about to build my third PC after this PC I have is at its end of days. If you want the spec list of the new pc just ask in comments but I am pretty sure you don't need it. As you can see in the title I want to partition my drives. These are going to be a samsung evo 750 500gb and a seagate Desktop *some random number" 2 TB. First my reasoning behind why I want this. I want to seperate my OS from the rest so that I can just reinstal Windows when it all gets to slow (yes this happens over time, just the software), but this needs to happen while not deleting my programs on my SSD. Also I want to do this on my HDD because then I can split up my games, movies & photos and files from each other and potentionally increase the speed because all this data is put randomly on the disks but in the neighbourhood of each other (helps especially for game loadtimes).

Now to the point as I have been wandering off a bit this topic. How do I take on this challenge. I know how to use the manager in Windows and at the installation but my questions are:

- Do I need to do it before (on other pc), during or after the instalation

- Do these theoretical drives keep the way they are even though I reinstall the OS or put them in a new pc.

- And the last question, how do I take on this challenge the best (maybe a quick guide in reactions from people who have done this before)

I know this is a long story I have told but I hope you wonderful people can help me with conquering this problem and bring it to a successful end.

well first of all, programs are installed INTO the OS, they arent just like a separate file that you can move to another PC and use there

unless you use protable versions of every one of your programs, which there probably arent, you need to install programs to the same partition as your OS, and reinstalling your OS means you need to reinstall all your programs

second, there is this thing called "folders" which can separate your documents and music and videos

partitioning a HDD will not help, it defrags itself anyway on a schedule

if you seriously need more speed, buy a bigger SSD and put your games on that

Thank you for replying so quickly.

My point of partioning my HDD is just the ease of use and I know there are things called "folders". But with this I want to clear up some space and especially with these folders and all the games I own it is nice to have it partioned as it becomes more clear where all my games are as the folder stuff can get really messy that way. Also thank you for mentioning the programs but if I reinstall my windows are these programs and games still there.
