Buying a new router

I have just recently built my first pc and it has been great so far, but I so have an issue that I have to use wifi for gaming which I would much rather have a wired connection. Whenever I am playing and someone else in my house is watching netflix or something my ping gets very high to where I cannot play anymore. Our router is in our living room and there is no way I could connect with a wire to my pc. If I purchased a new router to have in my room would this improve my connection.

Ok, so you buy a router, put it in your room and connect to that.....and what exactly is this new router connected to?
