Okay, kinda cheating with the title there, this is not my first rodeo by any means, however I'm in the process of moving to the US, and I'm here during some of these crazy sales you yanks have.

If I had to put a maximum budget on this machine I'd put it at $2,000 - incl monitors, accessories, etc. However I'm trying to keep the price down a bit (within reason), since immigrating to another country, is a tad expensive as you'd imagine.

Here's an approximation of the build I have back in the UK: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/WvJHcf

Here is the proposed build I'm working on over here, in the US: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/9ynJK8 (SSD not listed since I already have one)

I'm pretty much only using this machine for gaming, and some light work that doesn't involve video rendering in any way. So my question is.. Am I really going to see real world benefits, from the 6700K? I'd like to try and bring the price down a little, since neither of these build lists include a monitor (because I haven't decided on this yet) and I'm interested in going up to 1440p for the extra real-estate in regards to my artistic inclinations, and then the actual higher resolution during gameplay (I hate 'jaggies').

So, since i'm not doing hardcore video rendering or complicated simulations, is the jump from the 4790k to the 6700k worth it? If I just rebuilt my UK pc, and slotted out the 970 for the 980Ti - would I get similar performance to the other build? How much of a real world framerate difference would we be looking at? I haven't gotten my hands on any of the skylake stuff as of yet, and some of the benchmarks seem.. dubious, at best, showing either no real difference or about 5%.

Much more balanced. Suitable for up to 1440p gaming. 6700k is not necessary for gaming. Neither is 16GB of ram.

Yes. Because I can. Murica. (*sarcasm*)

But yeah, going down to an R9 390 would be fine.
