So this is more of a stranger kind of post than you will see on here. I'm throwing together a desktop for my sister as she so desperately needs a decent computer. I got everything together except the GPU, what kind of new low end cards are there? I was looking at the 950, and 750 but they are a bit overkill since she rarely games, but I would like to have her have the potential to do so. Any decent cards out there under $100? If there's nothing good I'll just get the 750 or 950 whatever is cheaper.

950 if you can find it is good. 750 Ti and 750 are just find though. If she doesn't game a tone, you might get her a 740 or RWhatever 250

I was actually gonna, but I want the ease of mind of warranty as if it doesn't work, I might not be there to help out.

Chances are that if it works when you buy it, it will keep working for a few years.

Clearly our opinions of strong is different. In all seriousness though like I said if she does find the occasional game she likes, I don't want her to worry about not being able to run it. Not to mention I have no problem spending the $150 on a gpu, but if I can find a better deal I will take it.

Just something to change your mind a bit...

I got this system over the weekend (i5-6600K, G.Skill Trident Z 8GB DDR4 3200MHz)

and I tell you, I'm amazed by what the iGPU can do. It can do some old games at 1080p with settings ranging from low to medium.

in Dota 2, I get 40fps on medium settings 1080p with the render quality at max.

CS:GO 60fps, with high object detail and low everything else.

To give you a better idea - in X-COM:EU, (whcih I've started playing again) I've been getting the "cinematic experience" :ifyouknowwhatimean: with all settings at max 1080p

That's an average of ~30FPS, it rarely dips down.

I've also tried it on Dirt Showdown in 1080p with settings at medium -

But I think the AMD A10 7870K could perform better if the game isn't CPU intensive...

Gonna get an R9 380X when it comes out though. As I long to play Witcher 3 in very high settings.

EDIT: I haven't done any OC there by the way.

You can bark like a dog, but that won't make you a dog.

You can act like someone you're not, but that won't change who you are.

Finished Crysis without a discrete GPU,15 FPS average, and a lot of heart

How I plan my builds -

Spoiler

For me I start with the "There's no way I'm not gonna spend $1,000 on a system."

Followed by the "Wow I need to buy the OS for a $100!?"

Then "Let's start with the 'best budget GPU' and 'best budget CPU' that actually fits what I think is my budget."

Realizing my budget is a lot less, I work my way to "I think these new games will run on a cheap ass CPU."

Then end with "The new parts launching next year is probably gonna be better and faster for the same price so I'll just buy next year."

I wouldn't call the 950 low end but its probably the 1080p sweet spot for budget gaming

yea, Witcher 3 will make your iGPU cry

Even Witcher 2 with everything on low at 1080p. It makes my dry eyes watery...which is good since it's hot here
