So I would like to upgrade my storage solution to something faster, my current storage is a 1tb wd green drive and I would like to replace that with 2, 1tb wd black drives in a raid 0 array. If I'm going at this right, my steps would be to install the 2 black drives, set them up in a raid 0 array, and then clone the green onto the raid array, and finally use the raid array as my main drive, with the green only being in the background, serving as a backup, correct? Also, does cloning work how I think it does, where if you clone, say, drive A onto drive B, you could fully replace drive A with drive B? And, for my situation, would software raid benefit me more or should I invest in a raid card?

I am running Windows 10 by the way.

Thanks for the help, I know this is a lot of questions, I just want to be prepared.

why not just invest into an SSD instead?

faster speeds, easier to set up, less problems and headaches, and better reliability

Will work fine.

You will have issues if the cloning software uses sectors and not files.

Hey there D_s_stone56,

I wouldn't advise you to use non-NAS/RAID drives in a RAID array since the risk of data corruption and loss are higher.I would suggest using WD Red drives as they have additional features (such as TLER) that reduce the chances of a drive dropping out of the RAID or corrupting the data. http://products.wdc.com/support/kb.ashx?id=AzNa7y
RAID0 does not offer any redundancy at all all so if a drive fails or drops out of the array you'd lose all of the data on the whole array.
