Would this be a good setup?

Go to solution Solved by HeftyNugget,

I highly doubt you'd have to replace a Fury in 2 years, plus it's only going to get faster as they optimize the drivers, it'll be more than enough for 1080p gaming, and it handles 1440p really well

Looking at the below benchmarks at 1440p depending on the game you're playing the 980ti is only 5 fps faster at times, or much higher likely due to optimization at that time, gotta find some more recent stuff for fury

Going to 4k, again the 980ti is only a few frames ahead in certain games.

So ya, definitely worth the $150 saved, and in addition a Free-sync display is going to cost less than a G-sync display, usually around 100 or so saved

I'm not a 4k gamer - by getting a new monitor I meant getting something with 120hz refresh rate.

I value smoothness over detail these days - especially when 4K is in state of baby steps.

Also, I really appreciate the time you are sparing to help me out.

I've decided on what I want to replace my CPU and GPU with - but I'm clueless on what motherboard to pick... in addition can someone tell me if there are any problems, incompatibilities or issues with this setup?

2 x full hd 60hz.

But I'll be replacing one of these with something better soon.

Ya..that hardware is being underutilized quiet a bit there, I'd get a Wasabi Mango, 40" 4k, and it can run 120Hz 1080p, just gotta wait for a driver hack or for nvidia to care about your freedom to use free-sync on it

Yes, well, I can't run Fallout 4 on mediums on my current rig, nor witcher on non-annoying FPS (which is 55+ for me)

I currently have:

Mobo: Gigabyte 970A-D3
CPU: AMD FX-8350 OC to 4.8GHz
GPU: Radeon Gigabyte Ed. HD7970

Bought it for the first money I've ever made, about 3 years ago.

Wait, I thought you said you had the parts in the OP, an i7 + 980ti, guess not.

So you haven't ordered parts yet correct?

What's the total budget for your PC build?

I have 2900$ in savings - which I don't want to spend in whole obviously.

I can sell my parts to my friend for 450$ as they are in a very good shape and that's what he offered me.

Well I'd probably suggest you maybe go this route, and either get one of the various free-sync displays or drop the money for the above wasabi mango display, which is really nice overall

Overall you save cash going with the fury and free-sync.

You are saying I'm 'saving' money this way - but in fact this will cost me way more than just replacing GPU, CPU and my mobo.

What my general idea was to pay more now and not have to worry about replacing my parts in 4 years or so again.

If I go with your build, I might have to replace it again in 2 years - while GTX 980 Ti STRIX on the other hand...
