Cheap GPU folding rig

I want to build something to fold with because 24/7 folding on my main is not possible and my dad keeps whining about the powerbill (21 cents/KWh)

So I would like to build a cheap but effective low end GPU folding rig based around a couple of 750 ti's or something (any other suggestions are welcome but keep in mind it will need to consume the least amount of electricity possible)

I was looking for good CPU's to use with a couple of GPU's but I was wondering if a dual core pentium could keep 2 of those cards at bay. or do I need more cores if so which of the AMD quad cores would be best.

Thank u in advance

You want this in priority order:

GPU > PSU > good internet > RAM > CPU > motherboard > case

Well the 750ti's do not have any auxiliary power so doesn't that mean that I need a somewhat better mobo?

Internet won't be an issue either but could u make any suggestions? I'm willing to spend €600 (yes I live in  the more expensive europe D:)

If you want a F@H rig, just go those shitty AMD dual cores, and try getting a good PSU for the $.

What budget?

Probably your best bet, where you are.

I can get a 290 on ebay for €250 a tri-x and I might be able to shave of some more should I go for it? And also if that is not good enough I can get the 390 for just €15 more then the new 290 would that make any difference I know it uses the same core.

I guess Ill stick with the R9 290 from ebay as I won't be gaming with it and because the higher frame buffer does not affect folding in any significant way ill just stick with the cheapest

I'm still a newb tho, I was wondering doesn't the dual core hold the GPU back Im there isn't awhole lot of power in that dual core

PS I have a spare HDD laying around so I won't be needing the SSD

In other words is it worth it to spend €22 more for a quad core 2.05 Ghz one over a 1.45 Ghz dual core?

i would actually advise buying a cheap celeron compared to cheap amd dualcores.

At 30-50 dollars , amd's price/performance is horrible and overall machine use is better on a celeron.

Heck , that's more folding power !

AMD Ryzen R7 1700 (3.8ghz) w/ NH-D14, EVGA RTX 2080 XC (stock), 4*4GB DDR4 3000MT/s RAM, Gigabyte AB350-Gaming-3 MB, CX750M PSU, 1.5TB SDD + 7TB HDD, Phanteks enthoo pro case

But what if I wanna add a GPU would the dual core be enough lets say a second 290 or an AMD equivalent

If you want to add a second GPU then we should really look into an APU and a CF/SLI capable motherboard.
