4GB DDR2 Dimms?

Go to solution Solved by ApolloX75,

Ehhh it's hit an miss. 50/50 chance high density sticks will work. I know my EVGA 790i (first gen DDR3) likes high density sticks but even EVGA told me they weren't sure it would work.

Considering how cheap you can get DDR2 for now, personally I think it's worth the risk.

I was looking at upgrading my dell Vostro 220s ram, and I found these two 4 GB ddr2 dimms on eBay:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/New-SAMSUNG-8GB-2x4GB-PC2-6400-DDR2-800-240pin-DIMM-Desktop-Memory-For-AMD-CPU-/361185336397?hash=item541852dc4d:g:B7YAAOSw3ydVrhsr

The ad states that these dimms only works on AMD systems, but the Vostro 220 is an Intel system.

Although this thread says that the 1.3.0 bios (latest) of the Vostro 220 will support up to 8gb of ram:

http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/forum/301783-30-dell-vostro-slim-220s-ddr2

The dell/foxconn motheboard only has 2 ram slots, thats why i need to use high density 4gb dimms.

Will 8 GB of ram work in my Vostro 220?

Current system specs:

Dell Vostro 220 case

Dell Vostro 220 motherboard (Foxconn G45M03)

G45 Chipset

2 x 2 GB ddr2 800mhz

Xeon E5420 (LGA 775 to 771 mod)

Radeon 5750

60 GB SSD

Corsair CX500M

Please do not suggest upgrading the motherboard, the case doesn’t have a removable rear io shield

They'll work, most DIMMs are created equal (not in terms of specs but if they work)

These 4gb dimms are high denisty dimms, i dont know if high density dimms work with my mobo. Does anyone have any experinence with 4gb ddr2 dimms in lga775 boards?

I might just go for it, due to the low price and that i have a HP DC5850 that will work with these sticks (hp says 16gb max) if they dont work in my vostro 220.

The question wasn't where to find them or if they exist. The question is will they work with the OP's particular motherboard.
