Need Help Choosing Tablet vs Ultrabook

So first let me give some background to what i'm using it for. This is used typing notes in class, and most of time the laptop sits in my lap and I find things like the surface book awkward to place(trust me I tested it with my brothers). Mostly its going to be used for media consumption. It also has to be able to do some lite coding, Photoshop, word processing and gaming. My main concern however is carry the thing around with me, I would prefer it to be on the lighter side of things rather then performance. My budget is around $1000, any recommendation would be appreciated. I know i can find pro and cons about the device my self but it would be useful to see your point of view so that would also be very helpful.
