Use a biocide or silver kill coil, otherwise delicious algae will grow in your loop.

Pro Tip: don't use flash when taking pictures of your build; use a longer exposure instead. Prop up your camera with something (preferably a tripod) if necessary.

This is my first custom water loop, clear liquid, and I was wondering if I should be worried about maintenance or I've hear putting silver in it? Any suggestions please.

My old thread seemed to have been deleted so I never got an answer.

For watercooling loops in general it's recommend to change the fluid every 6-12months and you need a biocide or a silver kill coil to prevent algae or bacteria building up. One main thing is if you have any nickel in your loop do not use silver kill coils since they are borderline dis-similar metals.

Like the coolant system on your car, you will need to periodically drain and flush the coolant in your water cooling loop. It's only the AIOs that are "maintenance free" (only in that they can't be maintained). How often will depend on your loop and what you're using for coolant. If you're using distilled water with a biocide, then aim to do that every 6 months, sooner if you notice temperature concerns.

If you're using a clear coolant, then follow the manufacturer's recommendation, but watch for discoloration. If you built your loop using soft tubing, you'll want to keep an eye on the tubing as well, but depending on the tubing you used, you may be able to about 12 months before having to worry. If you're using hard tubing (acrylic, PETC, or copper), you can probably go upwards of two years before needing to worry about flushing the loop. But if you ever notice discoloration, drain the loop, flush it with distilled water, and fill with new coolant.
