1 980ti vs 2 390's Help!

sissj

I know that the 2 390's are better value and have much more VRAM but apparently its a hot card, I would be using the cards for Rendering and Gaming but I also want to game on 3 1440p montors at a minimum of 60FPS @ High. Should I go with 1 980ti or 2 390's?

Please help!

Neither of those combos will run most triple A games at high on 3 1440p monitors.

That being said, 980 Ti

What about 2 390x's?

Why don't video games allow you to run video cards separately, with a separate view for each monitor?  Seems like it'd be a no-brainer.

3 GTX 970's, 3 monitors, 3 views - make it happen NVidia!

2xFury is what I am 100% sure will work for your needs for triple 1440p - not sure about dual 390X

Best bang for the buck would be 3 R9 290s, too bad they don't scale well ...

The money you save on the AMD video cards will be paid to the power company, but at least you get to use their extended monthly payment plan instead of paying up front ...

Hmm, If 2 980ti's would do it, what about saving money and getting 1 titan X? That has double the VRAM.

A R9 290/390 uses 60-70W more than a 970 - if you game for 4-5 hours a day at MAX load for them (highly unlikely) you will pay 5$ extra per 3 months assuming absurd prices. Please do the math first next time. No, TDP is NOT power draw

Best bang for the buck would be 3 R9 290s, too bad they don't scale well ...

GCN 1.1 and above scales MUCH better than maxwell due to the removal of the SLI/CF bridges making the correspondence between cards being done via PCIe lanes

It's not about VRAM - the reason 2 Furys would be suprerior is that they cost 200$ less than 2 980 Tis and perform on par or better

I show 70w difference for a 290 vs. 970 in my power usage table - but I fold 24/7, 70w for 24 hours is only 1.680 kWh, at $.35 per = only about 60 cents per day, which is only ... the price of a new R9 290 (albeit on sale) over the course of a year ; p, granted he won't be folding, so your maths are better than mine, but I did do my maths. B)

And I'd be remiss if I didn't try and get everyone with spare GPU cycles to use them for the Linus folding team, besides they make great space heaters   :D

24/7 load is beyond unrealistic :) - most people game for 3 or 4 hours a day max usually - I myself game at 50% load most of the time - 100% load is rare honestly

Agreed Fury cards are good for him if he is willing to spend that much
