DPI vs sensitivity in CS:GO?

So some of my friends from work convinced me to start playing CS:GO with them, but during a conversation with my friend about the game the issue of sensitivity and DPI came up. Apparently the sensitivity I play normal single player shooters at is not even in the realm of reality for CS:GO. I normally have my mouse at 1450 DPI, and then I adjust the in-game sensitivity such that a flick of my wrist results in a 180 (this usually happens at sensitivity 2 or 3, but varies between games).

So that brings me to this question: What exactly is the difference between DPI and sensitivity? How is 800 DPI/1 sens different from 400 DPI/2 sens? Right now I have it set at 600 DPI and 2.33 sens. It feels good enough to me without being overly slow feeling. I'll have to get used to it though, and will probably end up having to develop two sets of muscle memory since I see no reason to change my setup for single player shooters.

Also what's this craziness with people playing at lower resolutions? What advantage can this have? Obviously I'm not a pro and I have no plans to play the game above a semi-competitive level, and thus would never even think about changing my resolution from native, but why is this done in the first place?

1080p 144hz is the pro level for hardware because there cannot be any lag or tearing when they are doing competitive gameplay or else you will lose.

1080p / 144hz BenQ and Asus monitors are what most pros recommend.

400dpi/2sens is the same as 800dpi/1sens. The typical sensitivity of a professional is 400/1.5-3.5 with some outliers. Will edit this post with a spreadsheet of them in a sec. Click.

Also, low sensitivity does help. When I went from relatively high (1000dpi/3sens) to 400/3.25 I went from DMG to Supreme after getting used to it.

Whats the deal with raw input? I enabled it in my game but honestly have no idea what it does.

Still, there has got to be some reason for using 400/2 instead of 800/1 or else everyone would just stick the sensitivity to 1 and change the DPI to whatever they want unless it was not in an increment of 50.

btw I'm playing a 1440p 144hz. Will my DPI need to be inflated because I have a higher resolution screen?

Raw input skips all the other input; ignores Windows sensitivity, so on; it's basically input straight from your mouse, skipping anything else that might be between the mouse and game.

Pretty sure the reason 400/[sensitivity changes] is because you can get better control over the exact sensitivity you're using, rather than having strange mouse behavior.

And no, you shouldn't have to.

hmm , i also lowered mine from 14 to 8 and i now get one shot headshots easier

I'm sure I'll figure something out eventually. One thing that is confusing the hell out of me is that I get the same FPS in-game no matter what I do. I can run on ultra or low, 1440p or 600p and get the exact same framerates. Surely there is something going on here? Afterburner shows a big drop in GPU load, but framerates stay the same.

It'll sound dumb, but my understanding of it is it's heeavily CPU bound. Using the launch option -threads 4 (or however many you have) might help a bit.

That didn't really do anything. I also have multicore rendering enabled. Running a 4790k so it should be able to push out more frames. YouTube benchmarks suggest the same.

YouTube benchmarks of CS? Like I said, CS is a pretty stubborn/poorly optimized game. Perhaps check out https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?l=german&id=268030869 ?
