So I posted here a while back with a $4k budget (NZD) but I decided I could go a bit over because why not

I've changed a few things now.

Thoughts? :)

CPU - Skylake 6700k  $595

CPU Cooler - Cooler Master Neptune 240m  $182

Motherboard - ASUS ROG Maximus VIII Hero  $435

RAM - Crucial Balistix Sport 16gb DDR4   $217

SSD - Samsung 850 Evo 250gb $167

HDD - Western Digital Black 2TB $212

GPU - Gigabyte GTX980Ti  $1,139

CASE - Cooler Master Storm Stryker  $274

PSU - EVGA PSU 750W $201

ASUS DVD/CD drive $35

LG 24" Monitor x2 $448

Logitech Mechanical KB  $181

Logitech G502 Mouse $85

Total $4,171

I'm going to get a 144hz monitor soon, just don't have enough for it atm.

Is it purely for gaming? Because you could totally go with a 4k display over a high refresh rate display unless the Wasabi Mango is available in your area which does both

Otherwise if you wanted to go 4k you could easily get away with a locked i7, which also saves money on the cooler.

And generally speaking you'd again save cash on a free-sync display over a G-sync one if you went with a nonX Fury GPU

I edit my posts a lot, Twitter is @LordStreetguru just don't ask PC questions there mostly...

Spoiler

What is your budget/country for your new PC?

what monitor resolution/refresh rate?

What games or other software do you need to run?

Nah I want the unlocked CPU, just because I don't know.

Like seriously I have no idea what i'm going to be doing on this PC, mainly gaming, but also I do college work where I have to edit photos and videos and stuff too so might come in handy having a OP PC :P

It's only $34 so imma buy it and if I think it looks ugly I just won't put it in tbh lol. i'm getting $5k outta the bank so $34 is nothing

What's the purpose of your build?

Mainly gaming but some college work where I have to do photo editing and video editing and stuff.

i've always had a shitty Laptop and i'm sick of it . I want something with power

Wait, are you running a 1080p monitor?

If so then I think there are better cards to get than the 980Ti. You likely won't see any real benefit, especially if they're 60hz panels.

I mean sure, it's all good and great to get the best. But if you're not going to use it, much like that DVD drive, it's still a waste. Waste is waste regardless of how much you have to spend.

I'm going to get new monitors soon

Something like this https://www.mightyape.co.nz/product/238-Asus-1440p-Narrow-Bezel-100-sRGB-Monitor/23006621

but I can't get them at this moment, i'd rather have better components in my PC for now and cheaper monitors that I can reuse somewhere else once I upgrade them soon :)

Interesting philosophy but you might want to consider this; monitors rarely change. They're what you stare at all day, interact with on all levels of computing from web browsing to gaming.

I'd argue it makes more sense to spend more on the monitors now. Then, you can upgrade the graphics cards later on, where you'll actually see a real improvement in performance.

Computer parts are sure expensive there, I can get the same or better for half that price in the US.

Just think about the shipping costs..

converted to USD is around $2600, how much USD would these cost?

Upgrading the GPU later would cost more in the long run I think?

And mainly I'm only going to be playing games on one monitor with the other one I can use for web browsing and other things open so one screen isn't cluttered

Just think about the shipping costs..

Shipping will be around $100.. it's all coming from the same place. Case is quite big and bulky. Shouldn't be too bad though.

Derp, my bad haha. I've only just woke up from a nap like 30 mins ago bit sleepy still. i'll have to have a look around better.

Do you guys know what MT/s means for the RAM i'm getting though, is it the same as MHz? http://www.pbtech.co.nz/index.php?z=p&p=MEMCRU214028&name=Crucial-Ballistix-Sport-16GB-(-8GB-x-2-)-DDR4-2400

Many manufacturers today publish the speed of the FSB in megatransfer per second (MT/s), not the FSB clock frequency in megahertz (MHz).

This is because the actual speed is determined by how many transfers can be performed by each clock cycle as well as by the clock frequency.

For example, if a motherboard (or processor) has a FSB clocked at 200 MHz and performs 4 transfers per clock cycle, the FSB is rated at 800 MT/s

You will find all these information on the Internet itself.

Monitors here are expensive.. a 4K one is around $1000 and a G Sync 1440p monitor that can do 144hz was around $700..

Are you sure? I mean it's australia so I don't know the available between you guys, but you can get a 4k IPS free-sync display for $699

https://au.pcpartpicker.com/part/lg-monitor-27mu67

You'd want the unlocked CPU for a high refresh rate display, but I'd really suggest getting a free-sync display and saving money unless that's a 1440p IPS 144hz display, if it's TN, you might as well go free-sync and save cash, just gotta check the free-sync range on the one you pick

also where are you finding your parts? Because the cheapest 1440p G-sync display I'm seeing is $1300, and it's only TN

http://nz.pcpartpicker.com/part/asus-monitor-90lm00u0b01370

While you could get a 1440p 144hz Free-sync IPS display for $1000

http://nz.pcpartpicker.com/part/asus-monitor-mg279q

Is the part picker just not very updated?

I think I probably got confused with the pricing of things I was looking at a lot of different monitors yesterday and today so that's my bad haha.

Part picker i don't think it is updated much, i'm getting all my stuff from a single place for cheaper than what the pc partpicker told me I could get it lol

Yeah if you could.

mightyape, pbtech or computerlounge are probably the best places to look tbh.

Another question, say I had in the middle a 1440p monitor, could I still have the 1080p monitors for just general browsing and stuff also? I've never set up more than one monitor so I have no idea how it all works. :)

Monitors is probably the one thing I did the least research on >.>

BenQ XL2730Z: https://au.pcpartpicker.com/part/benq-monitor-xl2730z   ($749.00)

NOTE: They're not IPS Panels.

I don't think I can buy from AUS stores. Anything over $300 that gets imported to NZ you gotta pay some tax and shit on it lol.

Of course you can. You could even put 2 1024x768 monitors on the sides en the 1440p monitor in the middle.
