Oke, so I"m a bit behind in the swing of things with exams 'n stuff. Haven't been following Nvidia and today a random question popped in my head: Is Nvidia going to release a GTX 940? The 950's out to replace the 750, but would there be a 940? to replace the 740?

There will probably be a gt 940, there wont be a gtx 940, the gt 940 wont really be a gaming suitable card.

Cards at that end of the market serve a different type of customer, and are not updated as often as the products aimed at enthusiasts. For example, I think some models of the GT 730 and GT 740 (the DDR3 versions?) are still based on Fermi silicon.

 

I think part of the problem is that CPU graphics have been getting quite a bit better. We're at a point where there actually isn't a massive amount of room between the Intel HD 530 or Iris Pro 6200 graphics and the GTX 750—quite a bit but possibly not enough to squeeze in a whole new SKU. So introducing a GT 940 that was significantly faster than today's integrated graphics may mean retiring the GTX 750, which Nvidia may not be ready to do yet.

the cores might not be updated but they do at least rebrand some of them. There is a gt2xx a gt4xx a gt5xx a gt6xx and a gt7xx
