I was wondering if my PSU is showing signs of failure.

SPECS;

i5 4690k

8gb of hyperx ram

GTX 970

ThermalTake SmartPSU 550w

What it does is that when i open my game i can probably have it open for like 5 minutes and my pc just shuts off and reboot.

I already ordered a new PSU i just need some info if its actually failing.

Aren't GTX 970s less power efficient than 980s? I think you're lacking a strong enough PSU.  Did you load everything up into PC parts list? Including extra case fans, led light strips, ANYTHING you have extra?

I'm almost positive that 550 is way too close.

It May be quite  a few things, PSU might not be handling the power correctly, It may be in an ECO MODE or w/e Possibley if available on the PSU. The MOBO could be a bit messed up and shutting down after a while. CPU Or GPU could be just failing.

I ordered a new Seasonic 700w PSU to see if it works waiting on it to arrive.

Build your PC in there, it'l tell you the total watts (estimate). I can guarantee you're cutting it close. Gtx 970 is 145w alone.

Really should have gone EVGA G2, 850w Gold 80.

BUT, Seasonic has a great reputation and 700 will be fine.

Also; please don't run the PC until you get your new PSU.  You're definitely risking components

A GTX 970 would run way more than OK on 550W. Hell, you could overclocked a 5960X and 970 to the moon and back. Please don't advise people about topics you don't understand.

My account is almost entirely dormant. Hope you all are having a grand time. Many years of fun were had here.

Considering he's not loading everything he has in his PC on his partslist.. you can't make assumptions.  Please don't be a complete dumbshit, keep your depression to yourself.

Yes, I'm sure he has seventy hard drives all lined up under constant load.

For the record, here's two GTX 970s hitting under 450W http://www.guru3d.com/articles-pages/geforce-gtx-970-sli-review,4.html

Your PSU could be the problem, however, wattage is likely not your concern (unless this PSU is about 15 years old, then it might be as they do deteriorate). If you haven't reset CMOS yet I would try that.
