Steam servers

What the shit is going on with steam servers? I can't reliably download anything from the servers, it downloads for a second, then it stops. It sometimes works, but it still fucks around a lot. It seems the only solution is to keep restarting steam to see if something happens, and most of the time it doesn't do anything. My internet is fine btw, I did a speed test.

An interesting thing I found was that if you download from steam to a HDD the download may stop to write data to the disk. I don't know if this is what you are experiencing or if I am missing a point.

I DID plug in an external HDD but I'm not downloading to it. More likely is the below comment

Changed to London, then back to Manchester, then tried france. Nothing seemed to make a difference, although I WILL try ireland.

EDIT: Ireland was shit, operators were probably drunk. But Paris actually works a treat, not flawless, still stops but it seems to do a lot better than the other ones.

It was released an hour or so ago (in the UK), but it was available for preloading beforehand so that's probably why.

I had this intermittent steam download problem years ago for a short while and then it got ok on it's own. Never popped up again. To this day I have no idea if it was a steam server issue or my ISP trying to throttle large data flows.
