I reckon the original is the best. You won't need an i7 for gaming. You might want to add more storage however, as I think you'll find 250GB is not enough. A Seagate Barracuda 2TB should do nicely. You could do with 16GB RAM also, because it's cheap nowadays.

So, here is the original; it has a budget of £1120: http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/p/zBc2dC

What would you do improve it, i've done this:

http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/p/bdPMhM

http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/p/P9Y47P

Those two are both adapted versions of the original, which do you think is better?

Use: Heavy gaming, some development later possibly

Already own: I already own the R9 390 GPU, but it is still in the £1120 budget.

OC: I am going to overclock, but only lightly.

And i'd like the build to have as easy an upgrade route possible, thanks!

IF you are not doing any editing/3d rendering, get the 6600K system.

PC is Intel Core i5 6400, GIgabyte H170 Gaming 3, Corsair Vengeance LPX 2x4GB 2400Mhz ,Sandisk Ultra Plus 128GB, WD Blue 1TB, NZXT S340, ASUS Geforce GTX 960. Fractal Design Tesla R2 650W. http://au.pcpartpicker.com/p/793XNG. Graphics card choices don't always have to be dictated on performance. If you want the game stream and power consumption of the GTX 970 get that. If you want raw performance of the R9 390 get that. In the end we are all gamers, so what if your buddy gets an extra 5 fps?
