Whats best to use on my Monitor? VGA, DVI or Display Port?

I have a crappy old HP Compaq LA2206xc Monitor and it has VGA, DVI and DP and I game alot (and yes I know I need a better monitor for gaming). My hardware is -- i7-4790k, 16gb ripjaws X ram and a Zotac AMP! Extreme GTX 970 and the 970 has DVI and DP. Should i use DP or will it even matter? Im currently using DVI but i have a DP cable.

DVI is good enough.

I hate people who say VGA is not good.

For your usage scenario, I'd suggest using DVI-D. It's much cheaper than Displayport, but still digital, so the chance of weird things happening is SMALLER.

I couldn't tell you if i tried.

I have 1 monitor running with onboard graphics(VGA),one with DVI through my 950 and another with a DP.I use the VGA for my gaming but its mostly because im too lazy to actually do research.

VGA is actually very good, however it doesnt support the higher resolutions.

In many ways analogue formats like VGA, SCART, Component etc are superior to digital formats
