ASUS PG279Q 1440P or TV?

CC268

So...I have had my eyes set on the new ASUS PG279Q (27" 1440P), which is not out just yet, but I expect it to be out very soon. However, this is going to be an expensive monitor (probably $800). That is a lot of dough to drop on a monitor, but I am more than willing to do it if it is worth it. I am also looking at the ASUS PG348Q, but I don't know what the pricing will be and I am not sure if the bigger screen is worth dropping to 100Hz?

On the other hand, I could pick up a really nice TV for that price or a little more. Right now I am using an ASUS MX279Q - which is an awesome monitor, but it isn't the best for gaming due to the refresh rate (I get screen tearing like crazy on the Witcher 3).

What are your guys' thoughts?

TVs are not good for gaming as they have high input lag, and you cannot get any 1440p options only 1080p and 4k, also they are normally 60hz (or have horrible interpolation)

Monitors are 100x better,

If that monitor is too much, you can get 1440p 27" monitors for under $400 but they will not have Gsync, 144hz or anything special

If you're dumping $800 on a monitor it better be 1440p144 or 4k60 with G-Sync or Freesync

IMO it should be able to run 1440p.. 1080p is boring for a ti card

i'm gambling for the same question, throwing coins :D...buy the 27" 850bucks or the 34" wide 1 grand        and put my 22" 1080p 60hz away

The wide would be awesome - wouldn't need another monitor for a long time, but I am not sure if it would be better to go with the 144Hz over 75Hz?

For me Monitors are a better investment.  This is just me but I cant remember the last time I watched TV let alone use it even tho I have a 50" TV hanging on the wall over my computer setup.

It's 1440p 144hz has 3d nvidia crap on the fly refresh rate changing. The new one will be IPS as well I believe.

Don't go with a TV. They have more input lag because of picture processing I believe. Not 100% sure though. 144hz well worth it though.

Hmm so I guess now it is determining whether the 34" is worth losing the extra HZ over...144Hz compared to 75Hz (or 100Hz with GSync)

Anyone have any thoughts on going with the 34" Asus over the 27"? You lose the 144Hz...

My thought on this is if you have never tried anything higher then 100hz refresh then go 34" route. But if you have then it gets harder going back to a lower refresh.  With the new Predator/ Asus being able to give higher refresh rates it becomes more tempting to replace my swift.

It is a very tough choice, I feel your pain.

There are some Korean 40" 4k 60hz monitors that a lot of people really like (~$600).  That might be a good choice if you like to sit back and use your PC from the sofa.  Overall their quality is decent and price is good for such a large display.

I am personally in the process of making the same decision.  The PG279Q is awesome but 27" is not that big and the 34" 21:9 gaming monitors are just way more than I'm willing to spend on a display.

I think I'll probably go for the PG279Q

I would say if you can afford $800.00 alone for a monitor, go for it.     I forget the name and model number but when i build my gaming pc, i am planning to use the Asus G-Sync Monitor,  the one that retails for around $670.00
