1- Why not get skylake

2-You are spending a shitload of money on fans, don't do that.

3-The r9 390 outperforms the 970 in some games in 1080p and most games in 1440p, get it.

The 390 is more expensive in australia and NZ.

And if it's a gaming system you don't need a i7, the i5-6600k will suffice. Get a better GPU like the r9 390x.

Skylake is not that much of an improvement imo. Its just energy efficiency mostly, with single cores speed slightly higher in some rare cases.

But Skylake supports DDR4 and M.2. That means he'll be able to recycle stuff like RAM and use M.2 SSDs when they become affordable. Not everything comes down to pure performance.

It does have  a performance improvement and supports new features.

I'm trying to build him a much more cost effective build. Lol.

Then why get all the expensive fans and an i7? Get a i5 and drop all these silly fans and get him a better GPU.

You still have 230 dollars to spend get a r9 390x. And the hard drive is really very pricey.

I don't trust any brand or series other than the Black series by WD. They simply have the most quality HDD.
