Hey, i'm new around here so bear with me...

I recently got a custom build rig because I did not feel confident with building.  However, I am very keen to give it a try, my worry is that I will pick the wrong components or make a mistake whilst building. What is the cheapest possible functioning build I could do? I am not worried about specs, it just need to be able to comfortably run an OS. (I will most likely use Linux so windows will not need to be factored into the cost)

Thanks!

What's your budget and what is it going to be used for?

I don't know Linux all that well, so what are your intentions?

Yeah I may have overspecced some parts.. But that's cause you can reuse them in the future. You can move the RAM, HDD, mobo, case and PSU over to a new build without any problems. You could also learn how to overclock with that pentium c:

all i can say is when it comes to modding its sure is expensive as hell . better buy a case then water cooled your system but if you really like to go modding just prepare the TIME,MONEY,EFFORT and HARD HARD WORK . but its just for me i dont know with you but it sure is hard when still your in the level one stage -.- many mistakes and etc but its part of the modding experience hehe

Thank you all for your responses. That was a good point about having a dedicated gpu. Learning to overclock sounds cool aswell. I found a copy of windows 7 lying around so I can ditch the linux plan. I am planning on tinkering around with it and possible using parts in future builds.
