I'm planning to play video games such as Grand Theft Auto 4/5, Battlefield 4, and other popular titles on high settings.

I've never built a PC before. Some say it is easy. Will this particular one be as they say it is?

And more importantly, will it run those games smoothly with good graphics?

With a k-skew processor, you'll want a Z97 mobo and a third party cpu cooler.

CPU - Intel i7-4790k | CPU Cooler - Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO | Motherboard - Gigabyte GA-Z97-HD3 (Rev 2.0) | RAM - G.Skill Ripjaws X 16GB (2x8) DDR3-1866 | Storage - Samsung 850 EVO 500GB SSD | Graphics Card - EVGA GeForce GTX 980ti SC | Case - Fractal Design Define R5 w/Window (Black) | PSU - EVGA 750W B2 | Display - Acer K272HUL | Keyboard - E-Element RGB | Mouse - Logitech g502 | Sound - Klipsch ProMedia 2.1/Fostex TH-x00/Sennheiser HD595

Don't get the 4790K and H97 board.  You're getting an overclockable CPU but you're limiting your capabilities with the H board.  Either go lower on the CPU or go higher on the motherboard.  Also currently using the same case as you :P

I'm not good with picking parts, could you suggest some or give an edited pcpartpicker link?

If you're new to building computers then don't even bother with a K series chip or a Z97 board. It's up to you though, if you want that feature then sure. Personally though I have a K series i5 and a Corsair H110 and I don't even overclock my CPU so you should be good. Especially for gaming.

would recommend buying Win7 HP and then upgrading to Win10 for free, save yourself a bit of money

also, watercooling isn't that hard, would recommend getting closed-loop since it's your first build. get something like an H100i or an H60, something in between that would do just fine for your CPU

and you DO NOT

NEED

AN I7

TO HAVE A GOOD GAMING PC

you went a bit overboard giving what you want to do with it, keep the GPU, cut down on the CPU, change the cooler, cutdown the memory to 8GB (unless you're doing some really heavy stuff like photoshop and premiere at once), and maybe a few tweaks here and there for the PSU,

but while this is a good build, again: overkill

I regularly use tools like Photoshop, Lightroom, and Premiere for my work. I was told not to water cool as I don't have much experience with building a PC (if any at all).

I would like to keep the memory. A processor of this type would be extremely optimal for the renders and operations I do.

As for the GPU, what are comments about the Asus Strix? Is it worth keeping or should I switch to something like EVGA or even a G1 Gaming?

And I'd prefer having the USB for Windows 10 on hand—I believe it is worth the extra cost.

Why do you want to use nvidia? The 390 is a BETTER GPU than the 970 and its cheaper.

Closed-loop watercooling units require no assembly. You essential put in the rad, the fans, and the block, and screw it all together

Sorry, it's just something I like and am used to.

Fair enough. Just wanted to make sure that it wasn't cause you were one of those crazy fanboys. So your budget is $1300? I'll get on a build...

No you do not, he never said that he was going for a budget build anyways.

I always recommend i7s for more than 1k builds because i feel like future proving is easier.
