currently on a pavillion x360 with a a8-6410 4gbs of ram. its decet with great battery life ! but i had a hp envy  with a fx-7500 and i feel this laptop lacks so much that it had . grantedthis is amazing laptop for the price i paid Sub 200 usd and it plas casual games quit well but i feel like i can get a 14 inch with so much more that i would enjoy more. becuase rankly this screens colors kill me they are so dull and i dont want to mess with the setting since im not a professional with color.

i wanted to look at the new envy but people said the fx-8800p is limited horribly by hp .... maybe a lenovo thinkpad ? it had a discrete gpu with it for a sub 500usd price on ebay ? yes i use ebay i have yet to get a faulty piece of machinery from trusted sellers.

So...

Budget?

Usage?

Location?

Preferences? (Other than touchscreen, and 14" screen)

Also, Intel may be more expensive, but it also provides quite a bit better performance in most situations.

sub 500

school light gaming

us ohio

amd, 14or around that, touch, good battery. i prefer to leave my charger at home so not needing to take it like i do now would be perfect until i find something that fits these my x360 is my best option.

Are you willing to settle with something used? if you are, that greatly increases the selection to chose from.

chromebook touchscreen one sounds like a good idea

Except for gaming.. (Chromebooks are useless for anything other than chrome and it's extensions/apps, or if you get one that supports it, then you can put linux on it, and then do a little bit more)

ive always had amd chips and i had a intel laptop that was around 400 new comapred to my 400 usd hp laptop with a amd chip and it blew the intel away in every aspect . price to performce for gaming is on amd apu platform.mobile of course.

Keep in mind, that was the price of the laptop, not the price of the processor, you could have gotten a garbage intel cpu compared to others in laptops of that price range, and a baller amd cpu compared to others in the price range.. (Also, Intel tends to shine brighter when you get into the higher price range of laptops)

it was in like 2011 it was a toshiba satelite with a i3 and 6gbs of ram everything ran horrible after about a year , i had 3 or 4 hp envys with a8, ad fx chips just amazing performace for th ebuck. i melted 3 of them on purpose for warrenty and traded the fx one for a i7 desktop that i put a 6990 in for my main rig.

of course used is usually just the best bang for the buck

i bought my x360 really cheep with zero issues.

I'd look, but I don't feel like it atm :P

I'd suggest the following brands:

Dell (Some of their laptops are pretty decent)

MSI

ASUS

Lenovo

Gigabyte

Sager/Clevo

what do you feel about hp just want others opinions ? i like them but the recent amd 8800p being locked to 15w instead of 35w makes me wonder..... and i can get a hp eny with a fx-7500 for about 350-400 but idk the 8800p is suppose to be way more powerful.

I feel that HP tends to make poorly designed laptops, the construction may be alright, but the look is meh, and the cooling is horrible.

And then for Acer, the construction is just garbage on any of their lower end stuff, pretty much entirely cheap crappy plastic.

i dont have firestrike.

um

then how do you know its better? Than the intel computer.

What i would like you to do:

1. Name the amd computer you used

2. Name the intel computer you used

3. We will be the judges of which one outperforms what.

If you want something cheap it's be worth looking around on Ebay for a used Thinkpad T420 with a Quadro GPU, then pick up a new battery and an SSD.

HP Machines are usually designed to fail after a few years and have abysmal cooling to boot, and really there's no point in going AMD since you only get more GPU power compared to the low end HD chips, but you get worse CPU performance and worse overall performance per watt.

If you're getting a laptop for school, you shouldn't be looking for something with a GPU that's enough for gaming since you should be using it for work and work alone. Have a desktop at home for playing games on so you don't get distracted in school

LTT's fastest Valley 970, slowest Valley Basic and Extreme HD scores

Desktop || CPU - i5 4690k || Motherboard - ASUS Gryphon Z97 || RAM - 16GB Kingston HyperX 1866MHz || GPU - Gigabyte G1 GTX 970 *Cough* 3.5GB || Case - Fractal Design Define R5 || HDD - Seagate Barracuda 160GB || PSU - Corsair AX760

i have a main rig but i feel as even though i have a a8 its not enough for even casual games granted i play league on battery with 40fps on meduim-high i was use to very high on just the intergrated graphics on my fx laptop

amd lapto have always just intrigued me and ive liked them its a personal prefernce , i have a intel dekstop  way more powerful than i need but its fun to own the top end hardware

i7-2600

gene v mobo

12gbs of ram

hd 6990

700w psu

razer black widow

logitech g602 mouse

ac wifi

and i use harmon and kardon soho II for my headphones
